I'll be camping up in the Adirondacks with my family for a couple of weeks in early July. My camper is busted so I'll finally get to take my boat on a vacation. I'd like to fish for trout, lakers mostly but also browns and rainbows. I know the lakers will be feeding deep during the summer. Are downriggers absolutely necessary? I plan on using trolling weights with chartreuse jigs and spoons fished on 30lb superbraid. Has anybody ever fished up there? Are there any tackle stores in the area? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Try FISH307.com - Fishing Tackle Superstore (http://www.fish307.com)

That is the website for a good bait shop right in town.

In Lake George I have caught plenty of lakers using lead core line and large spoons drug slow near the bottom in 40-60 feet of water. The pike are also worth your time. Spoons are a good bait to use to locate fish, I'd start in 15-25 feet near shallow weed beds. Lake George is also an excellent smallmouth fishery.

Raquette Lake is a completely different body of water. I have done well with brookies there, never really targeted anything else.
