Yesterday I fished one of my favorite small neighborhood ponds in Portsmouth VA. The bite was slow in the afternoon but I still managed to catch half a dozen 1-4lb bass and a few big bluegill. I've been releasing the fish I catch here for years but recently a few people have started keeping what they catch and you can already tell the difference in the bite. These small ponds can't deal when people keep 4 or 5 fish a week. Back when I was a kid you could fish this pond for a month and never get a bite.

This would be a good report on the Kayak Fishing Forum. Nice kayak it looks like an OK Prowler13 in the pix.
Have you ever fished in The Lonestar Lakes down that way? Also Bennetts Creek ?
Both places have a Park launch I hear.
I've been tinking about splashing my yak down there in both places.

Last time I went out to Lonestar half the lakes were closed due to some construction - the good bass ones at that. There are so many good small ponds around I rarely go to the public spots. Bennetts Creek itself is a good launch for small boats and kayaks but not the best fishing. I live in a neighborhood near the mouth of the creek itself. You can launch at the marina restaurant and be in better fishing but they charge 4 bucks for a yak (7 for a boat). btw - kayak is a OK drifter, 8 rod holders, FF & GPS.

Thanks for the info on the Lonestar lakes. How long ago was it when some of it was closed?
Has anyone caught any speckled trout or reds in the grass at the mouth of the creek.
Wouldn't mind the 4bucks at the Marina ramp if the speckles and reds are there.I looks like about 3 mi from the park to the mouth and thats 6mi round trip.Would be ok to travel with the tide I guess.
The Drifter is a good stable fishing yak one of the best.I paddle a ProwlerTrident.
Wow thats a lot of rods'I carry 4 and I keep snaggin the ones behind me every other cast it seems.

Crazy - I was born in Portsmouth. Never ever thought of that place as a fishing spot... nice bass though!

The lakes on the B. Tract side were closed about a month ago or so. Nobody was around to ask anything in the guard shack so I have no idea how long it will take but from looking at all the pipe and piles of rock around it may have taken some time. I'm about ready to drive out and see if its open again.
