What do you know about Spot traps??
Are they legal? You can purchase them but everyone I talk to does not know if they are legal or not. Im not too sure the DND knows if they can be used by recreational fishermen.
I know you can use eel traps, is there a differance.
Let me know what you think or heard.

George; there is a guy named Moses Wells who runs a bait store called Mo's on the Go. He sells spot traps and is located in Edgewater. His number is 410-320-2478. His website is www.mosonthego.com. I think he has a liscence to use them, but I could be wrong. He will also be selling live spot and according to his buisness card he will deliver them to you. I haven't used him as of yet. I just run to hackets and catch my own and fill up my bait pen at the pier. Best of luck, 5th (Marty)

Hey, Its moses. Well its a shady area on spot traps since Dnr see them as "any fish trap". So until regs change its Illegal and all fish traps on the market have no turtle escape Which is illegal also. The eel pot maybe your only bet.. Turtle escape already there and MUST BE intended and used for catching eels. I will look further into catching spot by other means than hook and line recreationally. So If the spot wander into your eel pot Im pretty sure its fair game. I will find out tomorrow. Shoot me a call 410 320 2478

In Virginia a regular eel trap works great.
