just ordered the Garmin 4210 with 18" closed array & pedistal, the question is should I try to install it myself or let the pros do it at 85 an hour?

Do it yourself. Really easy and think of all the $$$ you will not have to spend.

They are easy to install. Save the $$. Just make sure taht you keep the VHF ant and GPS ant. far enough away from the radome. Look at the West Marine website for the minimium distances for the 3 units.

I installed a Furuno closed dome- it was easy .
I like to install my own electronics -makes trouble shooting problems much easier if you know how everything was ran .
Read the instructions BEFORE you start the project ;-).

Was wondering if the installer gave you an estimated number of hours for
the radar installation. I was told ten. Once I figured the best way to go about it,
it took me no more than two, including mounting the radom on a soft T-top. This
was June 2007. Have not had the first problem with the installation or the radar.
Most all of todays electronics for small boats are designed as "do it your self projects". Sure some would rather pay the money and have someone else do the job, but not me.
$90 X 10 = $900 I didn't have to spend, and I know how it is wired if I did have a problem.

I was given an install estimate of 5 hours for the 4210 Garman radar at 85 an hour.
We may pull out the current Furuno 1650 before we install the Garmin but have spent the last week cleaning the boat so no time this week.
