Garmin Sonar Off ????

I have a Garmin 3010C with a GSD20 and a Garmin transducer. The screen on the 3010C shows the depth etc from the transducer. I have a black box now on the screen (where the transducer info should be) with the words "sonar off". The transducer or the GSD does NOT have an on/off switch. The green light on the GSD is on and the transducer tests OK. Very strange.

Anybody very heard or seen this?

maybe the cord from the transducer is cut or damaged?
