I'm going down to Rodanthe end of may and taking a 14ft. aluminum boat. I plan on doing some sound fishing. Any ideas on what areas to try, lures,or techniques. Is my best bet OI or should I also try out from Rodanthe. Thanks.

Go Rodanthe, there is better fishing there these days.

I don't remember any boat ramps close to Rodanthe. Do I have to run far to deeper water? Evertime I have fished on the sound side there, it seems like one big flat.

personally, at that time of year i feel it is much more favorable to fish oi. The water temps are very condusive to good fishing inshore with artificials. There is also plenty of forage. Fish the tides...you want current and hopefully bait where you are fishing... jigs with soft plastics and maybe a popping cork rod or top water rod...for early in the morning...

The month of may was my most productive month inshore with out a doubt...except for oct/nov...haha

cheers,

Thanks carey, you think maybe a poping cork with a gulp shrimp or jig with gulp shrimp would work? I've done good with the jig here in the mid Chesapeake Bay area.

you are more than on track for sure... ;)
also there are some baitfish out there too, its very small tho...so you might also want to try that if the shrimp isn't cutting it...a baitfish type bait on the smaller side...honestly its never quite the same bite every time...some days doesnt matter, some days its 1 precise color combination...dont be afraid to change baits if you aren't getting bites in a fishing looking area...

from what i hearing signs of puppy drum are looking very very good for this spring....decent number of fish already and its super super early...
to bad i won't be there but for 1 week in may...!@#$ing college....

my tar heels let me down big...and now i gotta think about the term paper side of carolina but all i can think about is FISH....

hahahhahah

Check with Hatteras Jack in Rodanthe. I'm pretty sure he has a ramp behind his shop. He used to rent boats. He can provide you with all the info & bait you'll need to fish the sound.
