I posted this over in another forum. http://www.tidalfish.com/forums/virginia-angler/228828-garmin-sounders-what-works-you.html

I am looking to add a second chartplotter/FF/Sounder to my rig. I have 2001 vintage Raymarine electonics now but am more familiar with Garmin (aviation) gps'.

This unit would be my secondary but would like to have one that will serve well.

What do you guys use? What would you recommend?

Spend the extra money and go with the digital GSD22 instead.

Garmin GPSMAP® 498 Sounder w/ext Antenna & DF Ducer - NOH (http://www.marinecloseout.com/product_info.php?products_id=22118459)

This is a good deal, not a current model, very easy to use. Good buy for a Garmin.
I have a vintage RayMarine (2004). Never again. They do have there problems.
