I'm planning a trip down to OI to fish in the sound late in April. I'm looking for advice on good places to (hopefully) find some nice specs and puppy drum and whatever else might be bitting. Any advice on good spots to try would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hate to say it, but as competitive as the inshore fishing has gotten...especially with more and more people fishing sounds these days...everyone sounds honey holes are essentially sacred. I kick myself sometimes for showing even the best of buddies some of my spots....it sucks it has to be that way, but when you put years of time on the water trying to find spots it breaks your heart to have someone ruin a spot of yours by telling everyone and fishign it out....that being said.... there should be some decent trout in the sounds along with small pup and a possible flounder shot...the key advice i can give you is the formula i have found. You need minimum 2 out of 3 but most times all 3. Current, bait, depth( deeper better except for flounder)..you find a spot like this and their will be fish on it more times than not....i hope this helps you at least to know what to look for...

...for the advice. I know how that goes with giving out info on exact spots. I guess I'm looking for any "general" advice. This will be the first experience from a boat in that part of the sound. Thanks again!

We just did a seminar "Fishing the OBX Sounds" to a sold out, full house at the Kitty Hawk Hilton last Saturday. We projected Google Earth and local charts on the screen and went into deep detail on hotspots both Capt. Bryan DeHart and Capt Dave Rohde go to all the time.....we received top marks on the evaluation forms. We put up numerous postings. We will do this seminar every year at this time. We are actually planning a follow up Seminar on sound fishing to be done in the summer. visit website for updates.

The area from OI to Nags Head has been very very slow in the last few years and now the flounder at 15-1/2" to be legal, go offshore if you can.
I know lots of good spots that use to hold fish but no more.
