Need suggestions for bandsaw belt replacement

I have a "Tradesman 14" Commerical Bandsaw" that I purchased many years ago from Hechingers that has broken the drive belt. Because the manufacturing company of the saw has since gone out of business, I am at wits end as to find a replacement for the belt. Because the belt has broke, I am able to measure it streched out and it is 27" long and is ¼" wide. Even though it is round in shape, I think that a "V" shaped belt with work if I can locate one.

Now, I know that most people would just trash it but I really like the sanding disk that it also has and use it quite frequently and really hate not being able to continue to use it.

I was thinking that a drill press belt would work because it also works with a multi-pully position system like my bandsaw. I have a Delta Drill Press but that belt is 29" long which gave me the idea that might be the answer to my problem, except, I don't know how to go about finding the size I need.

So, here I am hoping that someone would know how to go about and find the right size belt, or have some kind of another idea for a replacement to get my sanding disk back up and running.

If you have a Farm/Tractor store near you take your old belt and head out. They may be able to match you up with something close. The one in my area carries bunches of belts of odd lengths and sizes. That failing, Iv'e seen broken belts repaired with a flex metal clip, kind of looks like a fish hook on both ends. Goes thru the belt on is pinched shut on either side of the break, and it works. I have a belt for my table saw that actually looks like links on a chain but it is a rubber/fiber material. I purchased it from Woodcraft to help lessen vibration adn it works well. I had to take out two links before using but have it for many years now.

You could purchase this and hopefully adjust to fit you band saw.

I went to the Woodcraft website from Capt. Moonjr's post and type in belts under search.

The belt I am talking about was listed there.

I've gone to the Woodcraft site and to grizzly and they both had a belt called "Power Twist" that you can make to any length but the problem is that I need one that is only a ¼" wide and the smallest that they had was 3/8". The belt that was on the machine was round and I am wondering whether a 3/8" wide "V" belt will seat well enough to do the job. Any one have any thoughts about this as to whether you think it would work or not?? Is the 3/8" the top of the belt or is it the bottom of the "V"??

Try an auto parts store, NAPA can match up just about any belt

I really appreciate everyone's help and I think I have been able to find the belt. One mistake I made was with the name. It's a TradesmEn, not a TradesmAn.



I found a phone number for Power Tool Specialist, 800-243-5114, that handle all kinds of parts for older power tools and I'm having the belt sent to me. Hopefully it will be the right one.

Just a follow up.....Received the belt, they called it a "O Ring Belt", and it was a perfect match. Their phone number is now permanently posted in my work shop if any more "hard to find" parts are ever needed.
