After a terrible blow to the flyfishing community in va. with the closing of the Angler's Lie it has been brought to my attention that the Anglers Lie has been purchased by the Urban Angler from N.Y. Grizz and Allen Short will take the helm both of which are colorful and well traveled flyfishermen, rod builders and tiers. Allen ties bass bugs that would rival Whitlock. Grizz as most know builds bamboo rods quite eligently I must admit. March is the opening with a grand opening in may. The fall of the small flyshops over the years has been horrendous and I commend the Urban Angler's for their concern of our affairs in wash d.c.
I shall support them with my hard earned dollars, and any spare change my kids fail to find.
more to come and very good news at that.

That's good to know. I hope they get a little more personable then before. Would've probably shopped with them more often but they didn't try to make you feel at ease, like you were below them.

Good news, about Urban Angler taking over. I had heard that rumor before but good to see that it is looking like it will come to pass.

This is a good time to remind everyone, including myself, to support these fly specialty shops because without our support they will go away.

Grizz said sometime in march, tying classes, seminars with charter captains, casting classes and more to do. He also asked about getting a list of tying material and hooks that anyone would like to have available. He wants input of what type of flyfishing his customer base wants to see in the shop.

where is Newell going? I think that Grizz should remember me from the AFFTA congressional casting call at Fletchers Boat house in DC. They would put on tying demos and Grizz was....was Grizz. He was hermetically sealed to Newell so that is why I am interested am surprised that he is on his own.

Thin k Newell and his lovely bride have moved on - businesswise. They still live in Arlington. Grizz was and will always be Grizz....good to hear that he has a new home. Also great news that there will be a fly shop in Arlington.

Glad to hear things are going well for Grizz...Anyone have an address for the new store?

Hope they're planning to stock a nice saltwater selection...

Tying classes would be a plus as well...

I live in Arlington, weekend warrior, primarily fly fish the Ches Bay..

Thanks, Brian.

I used to drop off equipment for Project Healing Waters there - anyone know where the next closest drop off representative would be?

Thanks

PHW will be at TieFest. I'll ask Ed and give you an answer.
We are going to start working with them on a monthly event during the summer.

Grizz also said that Allen Short is feverishly tying shad flies for anyone who needs them, I think he said 1,000 in differant varrieties. I know that one pattern Newell came up with was so succesful that it was sold to umpque. Cannot wait for the opening, drove from alex. va to the Anglers at the bay bridge sat. for head cement, craft fur and a few other items. I beleive they will have online ordering for those who want to use it.

Good stuff.

I once ran into Grizz 400 miles away on a river in the pouring rain. I thought I recognized him from the Congress Casting Call (I was there by accident but still fished and ate for free). We BSed together for who knows how long and then found out that we both live in the same area and fish the same home waters. I guess it's a small world when you're a hardcore fisherman.

Salmo that had to be the salmon or steelhead run up north. Can't remember the pilgramge run. Grizz asked me to join them and I told them I had no waders and Grizz said I have you covered with an extra set, just come and fish. Did not go due to family obligations but was given trophy pics to appreciate.
friends like that are hard to find, except in the flyfishing community
