Ran up the beach along side my neighbor, the Sea Gypsy, on Saturday AM 1/26 for our first Rockfish trip this season. Worked some bait marks off of Duck with no luck. Gannets, bait, 47 degree water just like it says in the Rockfish manual, but no takers. Ran up to the fiberglass rodeo off Currituck Lighthouse, but what was left of the bite was 4-5 miles offshore. Ran back to where we started and saw some more bird action so we set out the mojos and stretches and burned gas for an hour or so. I knew it was Rock season because there was frozen stuff falling for a while, but we could not get anything interested. The tide started running late in the day and just as we were about to declare a skunk, we got the first (30+ pounds) on a stretch. As we were taking the picture of the first the other stretch nailed a 15 pounder. Go figure. Ran back in the rain and got the Wahooligan tucked in just after dark.
