Decided to give it one more try before putting the motors to sleep for the season. Weather looked great for Friday so I decided to make the 3 hour trip down to Broomes Island. My plans were to take 50 traps because I would be crabbing alone and didn't want to fool with the trotlines myself on this trip. A buddy of mine called and said he would go with me so I took 2400' of line also.

The weather was outstanding, the water was like glass. We crabbed in 12' to 17' with little success. We moved some of the gear to 17' to 20' in another location but it didn't seem to matter. We only got one off the trotlines but did see three dropoffs. The water temp. was 54 degree. End of the day we only managed 18 crabs huge crabs.

Day was a little expensive but worth it. It was a great day to be off work and also a great time to spend a little time with Ron again.

Ran into Polecat while there but that's another story:D

The only bad part from our trip was on the way home. I got rear ended. You guessed it right, the motor got wacked. From just looking at it, the props took the most damage. The blades are all bent up. I have no idea what else could be wrong yet. When I got out of the truck to view the damage the other driver also got out and said " Why did you stop in front of me" I told him that I had to stop due to the red light and the traffic already stopped in front of me. He and two other of his friends kept telling me that I was to blame because I made them run into me.:eek2: I contacted the Maryland State Police to cool off this matter knowing that I knew that my patience with these idots was deteriorating.

Enough, My blood is boiling again.

If you decide to give it another try, Good Luck and Be Safe on and off the water

John

Man John,
Between your post and Neighbor Dave's, I am getting depressed.

People are stupid. Why did you stop? Dah!!!!!

This brings up a question. Is it required that when trailering a boat that we tag the motor with a red flag (or other color) as an attention getter?

I am in no way saying a flag would have prevented this inccident. The guy that rear ended you was in the wrong. What did the trooper say? Where did this happen?

I hope no one was hurt.

Did you drink heavily last night?

Dave:cool:

Dave,

Did I drink Heavy last night????????, Thanks:)) no. The officer didn't want to deal with it. He told us that no charges will be given. It's up to the insurance companies to fight it out. I guess I should have had flashers or maybe hired a convoy service to follow me with my extended load off the rear of my trailer??????? The accident occured around Prince Frederick.

Hey John. Getting hit from behind sounds like a slam dunk in your favor. I'd take a very close look to make sure that the trailer and transom are all ok too before the case is settled.

BTW- did you or Jerry try up near the cove w/ the warm water discharge? just curious

thanks, see ya

John,

What a mizerable way to end the day.... getting rear ended by a negligent driver!!!! It always appears to me that vehicles following behind my towed boat try their darnest to get as close to the prop (without hitting it) as they can. That's one reason I painted the lower unit of my motor fluorescent orange, but even that doesn't seem to help much.

Before you settle with the perpetraitor's insurance company make certain you have the entire rig, clear to the bow, checked by a dealer. The perp's ins.co. will pay the tab. Special attention should be paid to the motors' mounting brackets, prop shafts ( to ensure they are not bent, transom welds and straightnes, area around the bow eye and the trailer winch post..... essentially everything on the motors, boat and trailer. Don't overlook anything.

Back to the crabbing part of this thread.....
What a great day to be out on the water!!! No crowds, no wind, no hot sun or glare, calm water, good companionship....... The only thing missing was the cooperation of the crabs. Our final count was 25 keepers. Not what we expected after the 2 bushels RJ & I got 8 days prior.

The baits looked almost as good as fresh at the end of the day, so they will get another dunking next spring. I'm cleaning out the crabbing boat and puting it away for the winter. Will concentrate on catching some Stripers over the cooler months.

John and Ron, don't put off seeing your doctors about the newly discovered persistent back and neck pain that is a result of the accident. The perp's lawyer has likely already made a doctor's appointment for his client. Be prepared! I hope the soreness doesn't linger too long. Things'll be better next year.

Jerry,

I'm having problems typing. The pain is getting worse ( Just kidding )

No, we are ok

The boat will be at the dealers next week for a full check-up.

Thanks guys for the input

As far as the crabs, they enjoyed an overnight stay. In an hour they along with a few more that I had to buy will be the Guest of Honor at our table tonight.

Take Care, I need to get the crabs ready:clapping2:
