I have used TINKS 69 in the past with limited results. I got me a couple bottles of STANDING ESTRUS for the rut this year.
What do you use? How do you use it, scent bombs, spray it on the ground or other?
Do you use a cover scent? I spray down with scent away and use dirt wafers.

I use "Scent Free"
Although in the past I have used Tinks 69 on both drag rag and in film canisters with cotton balls. Never really had any problems although never had anything follow me in hot either.
A friend uses Code Blue around Westminster with dismal even disastrous results. Thi sguy has used Tinks with pretty good and safer (although still spooks a few) results.
Like I said I used to use tinks have gave it up many years ago preferring to let the deer do what they do. Not saying secnts don't work, I just prefer to leave them unalarmed as to anything not 100% natural to them, that being real deer.
Urine based scents are "iffy" because they are a product of the environmnet from which drawn. A deer being fed on a farm eating corn and soy bean will produce certain odors, and when used in deep woods or around nothing but grass and acorns, the scents don't add up. Deer ain't stupid, especially the ones (Bucks) that you're trying to lure with scents.
I have had better generalsuccess with sound attractants, especially grunts , when used sparingly, at the right time. We're getting there.
Just my preference.

I can understand the scent thing with the different food types but when and how often do you grunt or use a doe bleat? Do you prefer one of the primos cans for the bleat or use a call. I have one of the small cans and it seems to screw up everyonce and awhile and instead of a smooth sound you get a real short bleet??
Thanks in advance for the info.

Scent Away...head to toe, Red fox urine on my boats, Clothes when not in use stay in a bag of cedar chips. I use calls alot and have killed many deer with them. I tend to lean towards a doe bleat more than a grunt tube. I called in an eight pointer a couple years back with a doe bleat that was well over 300 yards away in a bean field. Brought him to 50 yards and double lunged him with my Knight.
Bow hunting this year called a spike to with in 15 steps and drilled him.

I pretty much do the same as everyone else but I use M.A.D calls. I love them Drury Brothers! They produce more than just a hunting video, they actual try an educate the viewer. I use their doe bleat and the buck growl calls. I don't use the buck growl for the growl but I use it for the deep grunts that it produces. It sounds great and you can control the pitches by simply covering the end with your hand. I however use just human scent sprays and no other scents. I have never had any success with deer lures and like anything else it does in fact have a shelf life. The manufactoring is ultimately trying to make money and could careless if you kill a big buck. I think they are hoaxes. If you spend alot of time in the woods and the woods your are hunting in have big bucks, then it will be a matter of time.

Just how many ducks come in vs deer? :D
Tinks #69 tried others and went back to it! Drag rag bottom & of soles, then 3 film canisters appx 20" off the ground appx 10-15 yards around the tree I'm going to be in. Calls 1 bleat from the can followed by 3 grunts every 15 to 20 min.

My uncle smokes a halp a pack in the morning/afternoon while on stand and has killed a slew of nice bucks. Guess he's just lucky or there is something to it? Dont really know.

Scent eleminator on everything when I leave the truck. I spray doe pee on the ground and scuff my rubber boots in it and leave it at that. I have tried everything at one time or another and have never had a mature buck come to any scent, lots of small ones. As far as a call goes I use a grunt a little and have grunted in a few good ones. They have to be in the right mood.
None, allot hunters are lazy and need to spend more time hunting rather than letting the deer hunt them. I hate scents; they stink up the woods and make the deer more alert to their surroundings. Scents and calls are not beneficial to the active hunter but only the lazy hunter, active hunters have more opportunity to kill more deer and a better class of deer by using wind direction, patients, and observation to train your eyes and ears learning the deer’s habits and recognizing feeding areas, travel routs and bedding areas. All that sent and call crap is kind of like the 5000 fishing lure selection in the tackle shop, if you don't know how to find fish or catch fish none of them will do you any good. The same go's for hunting all those scents and calls sure look nice and are popular because of those cool commercials you see on TV but if you don’t get in the woods and hunt your prey you stand less of a chance of being successful.

I have had pretty good success with code blue tarsal gland and golden esrtrus. The best results have come from using the tarsal from previously killed bucks. I save them all, bag them and freeze them for next year. I have had many mature bucks come to rattling, grunts and scents. That includes the 24" 10 pointer I killed last year at 25 yards It came to investigate the tarsal from the 8 pointer I shot earlier that morn. The 8 came in to grunts on a true tone tube. The 10 pointer scored 192+ winning first place in the eastern regional 9/10/11 muzzleloader point class and the Taom Barclay Award for top deer VPSA this year. Take a look at (VPSA.org) Not too bad for a lazy hunter!!

He asked and I answered, guess I should have stopped at None. I'm all for progress but commercialization of hunting products has gotten way out of control. People are being programmed to use this stuff and they don’t really need it or know when to use it. Every time I walk through the woods I find this stinking stuff hanging from the tree limbs with no hunter around or I'll be sneaking through a creek bottom in camo and some guy up in a tree is trying to grunt me up to his stand, Fag. I'm not bashing anyone if you want to use it, but it's called Hunting not Hunted. We will loose a generation of real hunters to this stuff, when I'm old and crusty and my son asks me to hunt with him I don't want to go sit in the woods in one spot surrounded by cotton balls smelling like a Fox pi$$ed on my leg blowing a grunt tube.:52:

I use to now hunt Hog Island in the early seventies with a Bear Recurve "Super Grissly" with the Tascor finish. Still have it has a collector piece. The only 2 sents offered were apple or acorn. I loved hunting the Vepco side mainly because of all the "Joe Indain wanna be hunters" trying to stalk one up. I've seen as many as 27 deer coming off the island in single file. Pick out the one I want and let that ceder arrow fly. ;-)

I personally like fox piss on my boots, It mask my human scent and I have deer all over me all the time. If you have ever smelled a fox they are strong in odor and they are plenty in the woods so to me it's a no brainer...I'll stick to what works for me.
As far as the estus stuff...well I can take it or leave it, all I need to be is on a good trail.

Don't let KJR get under your skin.
Gonna start using some scents and be a little more aggressive with the calling this week. Saw some good buck sign this morning. I think its getting close

There is alot of truth to what KJR says. It does take good ole fashion boot leather and scouting to put yourself in the right spot. I wish there was a magic potion, scent or call that would get bucks running to your stand. I'd buy it and its company stock! I do believe in scents and scent control. I really like to rattle too, maybe for my own intertainment as well as the deer, but at the right time of the year it does work. The very best scent I have found is REAL tarsal glands, the stinkier the better. I cut off every one that I can. I also attempt to harvest any urine, buck or doe, that a deer has in its bladder. Kept refrigerated, it will last a week or two. One thing I think everyone can agree on: "You won't kill 'em sitting on the couch!"
Good luck everyone!!
Hopefully this didn't post twice!!

Hey KJR, do you hunt turkeys, ducks? I know the point you're trying to make, but you started with a good point and ended up in left field. There are a lot of hunters that try using these things in place of being what you call an "active hunter", but saying that these things are gimmicks is way too vague of a statement. Are turkey calls and duck calls gimmicks? Would you sit in a blind and wait for a duck to just happen to fly by or sit in the woods and wait for a turkey? Calls and scents(most) are tactics and based off of natural scents and sounds. To me, an "active hunter" learns as much as he or she can about deer and understands when to properly use different scents and sounds to better stack your odds and possibly make a hunt more exciting or memorable. Yes, there are a bunch of gimmicky things out there, but it's up to the "active hunter" or any hunter for that matter to decide on which work best. Do you honestly think a grunt or bleat doesn't work? Seriously?

Has anybody tried other than cedar chips to kill the scent of man?I like the easy way out.I take a plastic bag, fill it with leaves and some soil, put my outside clothesmixed in.Go hunting and then put on the clothes that has the dirt and leave scent and you are sure in get in range to kill your buck or doe.The bag of leaves are to stay at least 24 hrs.in the bag before you go out to hunt.Last year,I killed 8 deer of which 4 of them were donated to the poor. The other 4 were butcherd and I now have enough meat so I won't have to go as much.I still hunt for squirels also

You need to try the scentless aproach! Have been using that forever and killed plenty of deer. Use what's around you like pine tree scent, or oak tree scent. Anything out of place, and their gonna know it. If a strange smell's in your house, ain't you gonna know what it is?

I agree that a different scent will make them more alert. That's why I prefer cover scents, because if you give them a deer urine or gland scent, there nose may pick up your scent. One thing that I've noticed is that deer so far don't seem to mind the Thermocell scent, but then again, I haven't had a big buck in front of me when using it and I play the wind as you've stated to help prevent it anyway.

I'm a tinks 69 fan myself but whats worked best is the urine sack of a buck or doe while they're in rut. Rub it all over you, as far as the cover up scent , well make sure you do it like everyone else said. I'm a non-smoker myself but know of many people including my dad who smoke in the woods and have shot many Big Bucks. He actually was smoking a cigarette onetime while a monster buck came within shooting distance and he had the thing stuck in his mouth burning and couldn't move.

As far as buck lure, I like Tinks 69 gel. It last longer and if it is raining it doesn't wash away. I've had bucks come to it like they were on a string.
