Anyone hunt Green Ridge?

Going camping this weekend at GR. Taking my bow and my 17HMR, hoping to try for a deer and maybe even my first try at calling coyotes? I know the 17 is light and I'm only going to take a head shot at under 100yds if it presents itself. I'm shooting 1" groups at 100yds consitanty. Anyway, any of you guys have any tips, idea's or expereinces (deer, coyotes whatever) I'd love to hear'm. I'm just going to have fun and hopefully help my freind arrow his first deer, last year was his first season and it was capped off nicely with a fat doe during the late firearms season, now I wanna help'm arrow one. However, I would LOVE to call a 'yote, especially having never tried.

When you get up there, stop by Bills. Bills is a bar/grocery store. Ask Bill or some of the other locals if they have seen any coyots' around. They might be able to help you out. I usually go up a couple times a year camping. I have never hunted there myself but have seen some descent bucks riding around looking for firewood. I also saw a bobcat 2 years ago in the middle of the day.

Try Mt Nebo, Savage,etc, if you want a coyote.

yeah...just watch out for the bears! and be sure to PM me with GPS coords for any grouse covers you might run across...!!

Well? What's the story? Any deer, where are the grouse?

Rich, having never hunted grouse I can't be possitive but I did find some very thick new growth (saplings, briaers, ect) on a few southern facing slopes which I figure will be good habitat. Seems like you'd have a hard enough time walking up these grades and negotiating the thickets, much less being able to draw on a grouse but it looks birdy.

That's pretty much the name of the game. Find areas that don't look like you can get a shot off and those are usually the spots you should hunt. Green Ridge is about the eastern most area with grouse...and there is a lot of old growth out there that doesn't hold birds. Grouse need the younger growth...you usually have to do some walking to find the best areas in Green Ridge. The further west you go in MD the better the grouse hunting. Same deal tho - find the cover and you'll stand a decent chance of finding birds.
