Anyone own this gun. I was thinking of getting the 20gauge, and fit it with a 3x9 scope. I hunt in baltimore county and would use it there. I thought od buying a 20 gauge barrell for my encore, but it would cost close to the same for a new H&R.

Also any suggestions on a scope?? I don't like the typical shotgun scope, I am more partial to a rifle scope.

This gun is tops on my list as well. I am very interested to hear what owners have to say, as I'd like to get once also.

You wont regret the choice!! Go with the rifle scope"shotgun" scope is a marketing gimmick.

Why not just shoot your muzzleloader during shotgun season? It's leagal. More accurate, longer range, no extra cost

I own a 12 and 20. Both are very accurate. Used decent rifle scopes (3-9x) on both. The 12 shoots well with remington core lokt slugs, the 20 shoots better with 2 3/4" lightfields. Be careful if you shoot the remingtons - they will put a dent in your shoulder, but they put nice holes in deer.

I bought my son the H&R 20 single shot w/ bull barrel last year! It is amazingly accurate with Remmington gold rifled slugs. The gun is MONEY at 180+ yards! I put a 3x9 scope on it because we rarely have a shot at over 150yds. It is very heavy so it doesn't have too much kick but is a hand full to carry. He has only had one shot at a deer with it but a bad case of Buck fever greatly affected his accuracy.
Buy the gun you won't be sorry!

I have one with a 3x9x40 leupold scope. I use it for stand/still hunting and I have killed many deer at 150 yds. I would suggest if you do buy one get it with the riffled bull barrel. I had to try 3 different shells to find one that shot a tight group and it was the 2 3/4winchester part. gold ( $16 a box of 5) This gun shoots 2" groups at 150 yds.

Do you guys suggest the 12 gauge, or 20 gauge?

The 20 gauge is more flatter shooting and youll get about an extra 50 yds over the 12 gauge. I like it because its shoots just like my 50cal. Encore but with out the mess.

I want to get the 20 gauge to play around with for the next few years, less clean-up, preperation, etc. Plus this will be my son's first deer gun when he is old enough. Another reason to purchase the 20 over the 12, because I don't want to break his shoulder with the 12.

I was new to deer hunting 2 years ago and several of my friends shoot this gun. All the other comments I agree with. I had my first shot at a 5 pt last year at 80+ yards free standing and one shot one kill. I also agree with the winchester round mentioned earlier. The 20 gauge has plenty of power for hunting most areas around here.

I own and shoot the 20ga. I have a 3-9 simmons scope on it. I bought this gun several years ago and have had zero problems. It is very accurate and the 20ga. shoots very nicely and is a pleasure to sight in. I have had no problems either with the performance of the 20ga. sabots on deer. I highly reccomend this gun to anyone, goodluck!

I prefer my 12 over my 20 - I think it's because I enjoy the pain it inflicts on me. The 20 has very little kick and has knocked down everything I shot at with it. The 12 hurts, but you can't beat the knock down power, especially with the core lokt's. I shoot both comfortably out to 150 yards.

I have a 20 guage and love it. Killed 6 of 7 deer I aimed for last year. 3 x 9 scope I bought costs more than the gun. I shoot 2 3/4 slugs and its plenty with a correctly placed shot.

Go with the 20 gauge.I got one last year and love it.The 12 weights too much and I heard as said that thr 20 is flatter shooting.
Why not use your muzzle loader????Because it is harder to clean after you shoot and the shotgun reloads alot faster and is just a accurate...
