OT- Delmarva O.W.L. event 10.21.07

The Delmarva Chapter of O.W.L. (Outdoors Without Limits) has formed to help people in the area with disabilities access the great outdoors.

We are kicking off the new chapter on Sunday, October 21, 2007, with a shooting event at Chesapeake Sporting Clays (a.k.a. Shrader's in Caroline County). We will start things off with a pig roast from 11:30 to 12:30, followed by a European start round of 50 sporting clays. We'll end the event with drawings and auction results. We will have a combination of items for raffle and auction- we already have commitments for some nice hunts and fishing trips- turkey, sika deer, sea ducks, field hunts, etc. as well as a few regular art prints, etc. You get all the above, plus a charter membership in Delmarva Chapter, for $50.

Plus, to get some of you to commit a little earlier, anyone that sends in their entry fees by October 17th can send an additional $20 and receive $40 worth of raffle tickets at the door. (Remember, early muzzleloader is 18th -20th, so we want to be all set with the numbers by then. Yes, we will leave a little wiggle room for those of you that want to pay at the door..... )

A couple details worth noting- shells and cart rentals will be available for a fee, as well as additional rounds/five stand, etc. With European start, you can shoot with a team or alone. We'll do some real simple Lewis class with nominal prizes- the idea is to get this great organization off to a good start.

A clarification in response to some very good questions. So here is the Delmarva OWL F.A.Q.'s-

Q: Who can come to the shoot/pig roast on the 21st?
A: Anyone, the "abled" and "disabled"- you will become a "member" as part of the fee.

Q: Once I'm a member what are my further obligations?
A: None- of course you will be invited to assist/participate with future events that will provide hunting and fishing opportunities for persons with disabilities, but you will not be obligated.

Q: These donated hunts and fishing trips sound great, but are they only limited to people with disabilities?
A: Good question! No, these are straight up donations, for fundraising purposes. If you win one, you and the donor will arrange it for some mutually agreeable date, just as with any other fundraiser you've been to. You decide who goes (for multi-person donations Some of these donors are also organizing "program" hunts, but that's in addition to the event donation.

Q: Who are the beneficiaries?
A: Our hope is to serve as a resource for all sorts of outdoorsmen (and women)- those with disabilities and those fortunate enough to be able to assist others. Some may have been disabled from birth, others may have from some accident. My personal goal is to open up our services to wounded Iraq veterans at Walter Reed Hospital, many of whom will be sitting out their first hunting season this fall. Can you think of a better way say "thank you"?

So, I think you're getting a heck of a deal for $50- plus it's tax deductible!

Light Tackle and Fly Fishing (2or 3 anglers) Tackle and drinks provided you supply lunch in Eastern Bay with Capt Ed Liccione

Half Day (6 hours) Fishing with Capt Shawn Gibson on charter boat Wound Tight .
