I keep hearing about tilefish how and where do you fish for them?

Bottom fishing in 600 feet of water in the canyons. Do a search, it's been discussed in detail on recent threads. You'll find everything you need except for GPS coordinates. Captains like to keep their tilefish holes to themselves.

just got back from a tuna trip last night, saw a 44lb golden tile at the fish cleaning station at OC fishing center, he also had 2 others in the 20 lb range. Really neat looking fish, I didn't know they got that big!

I'm thinkin not, Hambone is around 130' of water.........not likely to hold even grey tile fish.

We fish blue-line tiles in about 300', and golden's deeper. Good fun, good eating...

Yep. I have my doubts about the accuracy of Sunset's fishing reports.

anyone else heard that tilefish have a high mercury content because they are bottom dwellers? I was told that consumption should be limited even more than tuna.

That warning was originally for gulf and Florida Tiles. However, I do not eat more than 5-6 meals of it a month, just in case.

48 lb golden weighed in today at the VA Beach Fishing Center. Pending state record. Caught on the Waterman with Zipper.
