Started at 6:00am on the 10fathom hill nothing there worked east past the weather buoy still nothing heard the boys cathing some tuna in the 2 tones in 50 fathoms on the 165 started that way and found the pretty water and temp break pulled two gaffers off the first big mat of grass on the break. After we get em in the box I see the two tones had moved south and inside by the time we got to em we were in 125 ft of water got up ahead of em and wham short rigger is screaming. Fought the fish for close to 45 mins made 3 different runs once close to the boat would strip off 1/3 spool each time against 20lbs of drag never saw the fish and after all that time bam line goes slack she broke off and up comes a chaffed up leader.
Back on the troll find another school of two tones get ahead of them and bam pink spreader bar goes down nice fish but not as big as the last one fight this one for maybe 20 mins and the kid on the rod gets tired and gives the fish slack for a second and bam fish gone. That was a good 2 hrs of fun. Lost another nice gaffer around noon he had the short rigger and jumped then screamed across the spread rigger clip locked up and pow hook rips out so hard the bait flew all the way up to the boat. Today was our day to pay our dues we been hitting near 100% most of the year when we get a hook in em. Rest of the day spent between the 125 and 185 line as deep as 100 fathoms and shallow as 100ft one more dolphin bite and that was it for us. Fished till 3:30 and headed in.
Pretty water is moving south fast big mats of weeds some not fishable scattered too bad some clean, water temp from 78-83 prettiest blue water I've seen all year flying fish everywhere. Best water seemed to be on the 165 and the 853
At least we got some nice mahi steaks for the grill and a great fight to watch the fish win.
