This morning's south breeze was a bit more than expected, and after taking a beating for half an hour I informed the crew that ACCESS WAS DENIED to Washington canyon for us!!! (Hey, after three days and two nights on a 28 footer, and my back just can't take a 3' to 4' head sea any more.) So...we aborted, and hit the Jack Spot instead...where we had nothing, nada, zip. Made the call to try and move farther out around 10:00 and luckily, the angle of attack to Poor Man's was a lot better. We found a large pod of common dolphin moving aggressively along right around the 50 fathom line, and they came and played in our bow wake as we slowed then set back the spreader bars and baits. Before we could get them all out...

this healthy critter jumped on a green bar with a Green Machine hook bait. Unfortunately, the dolphin kept moving at warp speed as Phil reeled the tuna up, and we lost sight of them well before sinking the gaff. The next hour of trolling produced nada, so we moved out to the balls and bailed a dozen mahi, all chicks. Trolling back towards home a small blue marlin came into the spread and eyeballed that same green bar, but didn't attack. He refused a hoo pitch bait, and swam off without making an attack. All in all a pretty slow day, but I'll take what I can get when ACCESS IS DENIED!!!
