I'm likely to have about 6 hours to fish in late August in Miami, and I was hoping to target peacock bass in one or more canals. Any advice as to locations and gear? I'll be starting at and returning to Miami International Airport.

You won't have to go far.

Thanks, guys. I'll post a report if it works out. Seb, have you actually fished there? Are there decent access points on foot? (I do have that and other canal guides.)

DP,

Most of the canals have good access. Many run along decent size roads and the state/county owns all the way from the road to the canal. Watch your backcast for motoring traffic in some places, in others you will have plenty space. There is so much water, in fact almost too much and where on it to fish becomes an issue. I can recommend the interchange of 595 and 95 in Ft Lauderdale -- several small lakes there that have both bass and peacocks. You are allowed to fish there.

Either Fly Fisherman or Fly Rod and Reel did a story with some good details on peacock locations -- I want to say about 2 years ago, but I'm sorry I no longer have the issue.
