Tide was marginal for tailing fish in the grass in the morning and better in the evening. So I went both, once b4 church (still got there in plenty of time) and then agan after yardwork and dinner with the family...
The red dawgs were in there. We saw around a dozen fish tailing. Got a couple. One on spinning gear and one on fly. My neighbor across the street had never seen this spectacle and got one to eat a plastic shrimp thingy and was pretty stoked. I used my typical Grass Crab that I used all last summer. It was the first time finding some tailers in the grass this year and it was great.
The funniest part (to me anyway) was the other boat that we saw last night...this guy had a 20 foot bay boat with a poling tower on it. He had two guys in front tossing plugs as far as they could and they were nowhere near where I was seeing the fish. I had to get out in ankle deep water one time to get close enough to one fish to cast to it. I saw them try to get out and wade once and they were in up to their waists and slogging through muck. I was in the shallows and standing on solid ground. A few guys are telling people that they do this kind of fishing around here now, but only me and one or two others actually have the right boat combined with the knowledge to actually do it right.:boat:

Get after 'em, Gordo !! And pack that camera next time. Nothin' better than tailin' reds.

And we need to see the "Grass Crab" if it's not proprietary (?)

Chernobyl Grass Crab (http://www.geocities.com/~flyfishnc/grasscrab.html)

It's basically a modified Borski Chernobyl Crab. I give all the credit to him but then I bastardized it for fishing in spartina grass flats.:fishing2:
