What: National Casting Call Family Day
When: March 29th, 2007
Where: Fletcher’s Boathouse in the C&O National Park, Washington D.C.
After last April’s successful launch of the National Fish Habitat Action Plan (NFHAP), momentum is growing for this year’s National Casting Call. Formerly the Congressional Casting Call, plans are well under way to provide members of Congress, the Administration and other key policy makers the broad angling community with highlights and early successes of the NFHAP. For more information on the National Fish Habitat Action Plan please visit National Fish Habitat Initiative (NFHI) (http://www.fishhabitat.org). Once again this year’s National Casting Call will be held on April 30, 2007 at Fletchers Cove in the C&O National Park in Washington D.C.
“For retailers, manufactures, industry media, sales reps or any of us working to broaden interest in and grow the sport of fly fishing; the protection and restoration of fish habitat nation wide must be high on our lists of priorities. Simply put, more places to fish equals greater fly fishing recruitment opportunities” says Robert Ramsay of the American Fly Fishing Trade Association. This year’s event will recognize individuals for their outstanding efforts in fish habitat conservation as well as to introduce “10 Waters to Watch” from NFHAP. Ramsay continued “we’ve worked very hard with our partners to create this premier national and promotions event as the focal point, launching pad and reporting mechanism for angling related resource initiatives nation wide.
Initiated last year, the event will once again be preceded by a family fishing day. Coordinated by the National Parks Service, Guest Services Incorporated, American Fly Fishing Trade Association, Trout Unlimited, the Costal Conservation Association, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation and many other key partners, the family fishing day will be held on Sunday, April 29th from 10:00pm to 2:00pm and will include a fishing rodeo, fly casting lessons, interactive displays on fish habitat and an opportunity for Cub and Boy Scouts to complete activities that are required to earn their respective fish merit badges. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy all that C & O National Park has to offer.
Ramsay continued “Events surrounding the National Casting Call provide us and our partners with a unique opportunity to not only educate members of Congress, the Administration and other key policy makers on the need for a successful Fish Habitat conservation, but to continue developing the next generation of fly anglers and fishing resource stewards”
National Casting Call invitations are on the way to all AFFTA members. To RSVP or volunteer please send an email to chairman@ccamd.org
