I thought it may have ben a fluke but now I am sure, that Maytag is a piece of chit! 14 months ago my wife decided she wanted a new frontloader washer & dryer. There was nothing wrong with the ones we had, they were only 3 yrs old, but she wanted them so I went and got them. I never buy those extended warranties but that little voice was telling me to buy it so I did on both of them. 13 months later, dryer (1 month outta reg warranty)starts making noise, sounds like a roller has gone bad, so I go through 3 acts of congress and finally get a service co close by to come look at it, THE FREAKEN DRUM IS CRACKED, if I hadn't bought the ext warr, I would be lookin at a new dryer purchase, it took 6 weeks to get the drum, they fix it and I'm back in business, 3 weeks later, washer starts making a funny noise, I called the service co on Fri, They promply set up a service date for today (mon), SAT night, the washer completely craps out.! They come out and the pump has crapped out, OMG, if I hadn't had the ext warr, cost to repair would be almost half of what a new washer would be, and these are only 14 months old. WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!!
BEWARE OF THE LONELY MAYTAG REPAIR MAN!!!!

Check out the scratch & dent appliances at Sears Outlets (not the store). You can save mucho $$$ on name brands. There's one in Newark, DE.... no $ales tax.

My Maytag Performa washer is now 4yo and running strong. Only complaint, it doesn't load and unload itself. It replaced an Amana commercial series that ate the bottom tub seals.

I think my washer(Whirlpool) is 20 years old, the dryer(Kenmore) is well over 30, just replaced the blower belt in the dryer, got it from a shop right next to my office. Most folks replace both units when one goes bad, it's easy to find perfectly good units that at worst might need a belt or a roller bearing, at best they are completely fine. Recycle!

Yea , The old style's are alot better, These are the new Neptune series, they are only 14 months old and have had major repairs to both already. I will keep my fingers crossed and my repair shop on speed dial, I'm sure we will get to know each other well over the next 4 yrs. before I got married this time, I had a dryer that was 20+yrs old, only had an element burn out, got the part and fixed it, was still working for the people I gave it to last time I saw them.

I have delt with a many Co. and it seems that Sears still stands behind their products better than any other Co. I have found in todays world. Most of the stores will always have a decent Sale and most will have a few scratch and dents on the floor. We just purchased a dishwasher from Sears (chesapeake Sq. Mall) it was the last one and the floor modle. The sales price was $375 which was $100 off and then they took off another $150 because of a scratch which no one will ever see. I did not realize how noise my old one was until I had the new one in place. I have checked it a few time while it was running to see if it was still on.

My wife got the Neptune series washer and the dryer w/ the cabinet about 2 years ago. Both have been great. As a general comment, the front load machines will wash larger loads, will wash clothes better and with less wear on the clothes, and for me as I'm on a well, use way less water and soap. Wahtever brand I buy next it will never again be a top load washer.

LinMar, I hope you have better luck with yours, and the excorsism I performed on mine has chased all the gremlins and evil spirits away, they are back at 100% for now, but my service co is on speed dial, just in case, at least the wife is happy again. Time will tell

We just got an LG front loader this winter. Recently, it started leaking at the door gasket. Called LG and they told me to clean the gasket well. I did and everything is back to normal. The thing I dont get about these front loaders is, they claim to wash more clothes. Ok.....so how do you squeeze in more clothes in a front loader without them falling out the door? On a top loader, you dont have that problem.

mike,
I hope LG does better with the Wash/Dryer, I am a mechanical contractor and had a friend bring me there refrig, it was an LG side by side, the compressor was bad, I called LG to get a replacement , they would not sell it to me, they said that there own service people had to repair it (it wasn't under warranty) I explained, I'm a mechanical contractor , and thats what I do for a living, they would not sell me a comressor, and they do not label there compressors so I couldn't cross it over to something else, smart for them ,unlucky for my friend, just FYI

I inherited my grandparent's Maytag W & D recently. They're 35 years old and still running strong. Maybe you got a lemon.

We bought Maytag and my wife is really happy with it. Its 4 yo now and within a month after we bought it, a metallic rattle started. Called Maytag service who came out and prety much disassemble at least half the machine to fine a penny laying in the bottom of the tub.
No charge for the service, but had to listen to the spiel about extended service contracts. I asked if the product is such high quality, why should I need extra protection to which he just grinned and left.

PS: V B, your inheritance is probably better than money can buy nowdays -- hang on to'em until there are no more parts!!!

We just got rid of our maytag dishwasher....nothing but problems w/ it....leaking door gasket, then leaking soap dispenser gasket, then it was just out of warranty and the thing started leaking.....the pump housing was cracked and the water shorted out all the relays, and tripped the GFCI breaker which it was plugged into....good thing it didn't start a fire.

I replaced all the parts and then the basket started to rust...took it to goodwill store....for the deduction.....replaced it w/ a Kenmore...much quieter and does a better job cleaning.
