Is anyone interested in a new crabbing video? I'm thinking of having one produced this year with the help of some very talented friends. Any ideas on what you want to see? Trotlining, chicken necking, toppless traps, equipment and some good video of all of that?

Well, just off the top of my head, a few thong clad ladies using the said trot line, topless traps etc, might be good blood pressure medicine for some of us old coots. Just a thought,:) T.

especially if they are picking up traps on a boat with a very high gunwale.
Trotline rigging tips on chain lengths, rope lengths from float to chain, snood assembly demonstrations and material tips, various "propostick" assemblies (Some real beauties have been shown here), slow motion dipping footage from a snood line. Various ways to attach bait to a line, different knots.
Underwater footage of crabs riding up a trotline prior to being dipped or better yet while being dipped would be great!!!

Dave - Everytime we have visitors from out of the area, they want to try crabs but have no clue how to open the shells. Maybe you could close with the last 2-3 minutes of a little demo on how to pick crabs. Jim

Another very important subject is how to keep them alive the longest, icing them down, for people who travel a distance. It suprises newbies.

I think the best way for everyone to contribute and be in the video would be for me to interview each persons particular knowledge. I would love to see a video that had a cast of "characters" that were experts in different things. I'm going to start putting this thing down on paper so it can be produced this year. I'm going to fund it out of my own pocket and have it distributed on DVD all over if it turns out the way I want it. I would love to have local knowledge drive this thing.

Dave - No biggie that a video was produced. How many videos on other subjects like football, soccer or sailing were produced? 100s or thousands. Not only that. by taking advantage of the knowledge and subjects on this board.... yours will have more valuable information. Your idea is sound and your video will be a winner. Jim
I agree, there is plenty of room for another crabbing video/DVD. I have that video and it is fun and informative, but it does not get detailed enough for me. Maybe that is the wrong term. There is plenty of addtional information that a new crabbing video can bring. Just from being on this board, I have learned losts of tricks and techniques to crabbing. There is snood making, modifications from Polecat for snoods and modifications for the rope that connects your float to your crab basket or ring to adjust for different water depths. There is a host of information that another video can bring.

Dave That is an Excellent idea. I briefly published an outdoors magazine in the area, and had grand visions of Videos on several subjects that pertain to the Delmarva region, Rockfish, Crabbing, deer hunting, goose hunting, etc. etc. ...funds ran out, sponsorship interest was sketchy at best, and the idea has simply remained a dream....well a burning desire is more like it.
I would love to help out any way I can. I have 30 years of crabbing knowledge to offer assistance, and a good boat to crab from. Plus I have a frickin smokin girlfriend that would love to put on a bikini and dip crabs for us :D

I can see it now.
The Tidalfish Crab Board Crab Dippin Babes Calendar.
Or maybe a nice website like Gaff:
http://www.gaffmag.net/girls_of_gaff.php
They will all be given screen names like:
Dippin Debbie, Sweaty Sally, Crabby Connie,Patty the Trap Puller, Betty Baiter.
Ill volunteer to be the fluff guy if we need one.
No, seriously, This video thing is a great idea. The state might even want to pay royalties or something and play it on MPT like those other shows about the bay.
Ill happily help out too.
Rod, if your girlfiend is still the same one you brought to CF3, then yes, I agree she is an attractive lady. And an added bonus is that she likes crabbing too. Lucky guy!

Thanks for all the advice and offers to help guys. I promise to you every source available to make a great video. I've talked with Mike Kobus (Crabman) and I've watched the video 100 times. I think we're going to go down the trotline road a little bit more and detail equipment, boats, baits and cover where to catch crabs in depth. It's going to be a little bit different than Mikes video. Don't get me wrong, I love his video but it's time for an update.

how about a camera inside a trap, would be neat to see if they run in and eat quickly and leave or if they stay awhile.

John, thats's a great idea and I would love to see how a crab approaches a trap and jumps on a bait. I would have to see if I could find someone with an underwater camera to borrow. I'm not sure how much they cost but I'm sure it's not cheap.

what we need is 30 remote lens's and a PC on the boat, each one numbered and you just go pull the trap that has a crab in it.:D
