I'm going backwards but for those who have expressed interest, here's what goes under the garboard planks. Installing chines was the previous step in this project. The garboard planks are of course, the lighter bottom planks mounted over the chines depicted in the more recent postings. These chines were made from a large (23 ft.) mahogany board that was cut into one inch x one inch strips on a table saw. I bought the board from Exotic Lumber and first cut it to 17 ft. and 6 ft., so I could get it home. Then I planed, jointed the board and cut it into strips to bend them more easily around the floor timbers. The bottom edge is cut to a 25 degree bevel, also on the table saw. The shiny stuff is West Systems epoxy, of course, which goes between the chine strips and the floor timbers. It also goes between the chine strips. It makes a big mess but who cares, right? Each strip is screwed into each floor timber all the way across using silicon-bronze screws. I had to sand all the epoxy off of the chines before mounting the garboard planks so the new epoxy would stick between the chines and the garboard. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. . Jim
