I usually steam my crabs (1/2 bushell or less) for 20 minutes. Now with a 60qt pot and a full bushell will I have to increase my steam time? Appreciate the help.

I go 25 minutes from the time the pot starts to push steam.

Thanks Ant, I figured it wouldn't change that much.

I always go 20 minutes, But it makes me mad when people come up and lift the lid! To take a look, then I extend the time of the steaming!

Lifting the lid at my house, before the crabs are done, gets said lifter the next available chance to bait the line. They learn quick not to lift.:D T.

35 minutes, with good heat and tight lid. From the time they go on the burner, to finish. This is with a packed 60 quart pot of crabs!

The worse thing you can do is overcook them. The general rule of thumb that has been around here as long as I have. When they start steaming 20 minutes and they are done. My steamer holds two bushel and about 2 doz ears of corn. Love the corn steamed over the crabs my favorite way to cook corn on the cob.
