View Full Version : Myrtle Beach/Conway Fishing
I am going to be in Myrtle Beach this week to visit my Mom in Conway. I would love to fish there if I could. Will my MD license allow that? Somebody mentioned readfish and trout which I have never fished for but sounds like fun> Could anyone give me an idea of where and how and times to fish for them. I will not be bringing my boat this time but I would also like to fish for stripers from a shore or pier.
Thanks for your help. I love South Carolina but have never fished there.

Brother, you're out of rockfish country but all is not lost. There are several very good tackle shops who can hook you up on shoreline trout--maybe a few reds. They're beginning to school now which will make it more hit and miss w/o the boat.
I'd recommend you look toward Winyah Bay and Pawley's Island for the best shore/bridge access. I can't remember the non-boat rules, but I'm think I recall that you only need a SW license if you're on a privately owned boat. But I think you can buy a SC NR-14 day saltwater license at any of those shops to be sure. Not too expensive ($10 or so).

I will need a South Carolina non-resident saltwater license ... it can be purchased on-line.
Go to: http://www.dnr.sc.gov/purchase.html
14 day Non-Resident Saltwater license ($11.00) I think there is also a minor fee for doing
the transaction on-line.
A good way to get it, since not every tackle shop handles licenses ... and they are often
reluctant to refer you to one that does.
You will need one whether you are fishing from your boat or shore. If you fish with a guide
you may not need a license if you fish from his/her boat. Check with the guide.

I can only point you to some good ones in Charleston--but the fishing is pretty much the same. If you make it down to Mt. Pleasant, try Barton and Burwells--great guys in there. Also try Charleston Angler in St. Andrews (just opened a Mt. Pleasant location)--they are also very helpfull but more Yankee-phobic. :)
I just got back from Chucktown. See my report under a new thread.
